Boarding With A Mobility Aid
A-Ride buses are equipped with lifts to accommodate wheelchairs, scooters and riders who cannot navigate steps. Riders using these devices are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:
Wheelchairs (when occupied) weighing more than 600 pounds or more than 30 inches wide by 48 inches long may not be accommodated on A-Ride vehicles
If requested, drivers will push manual wheelchairs to and from the vehicle and building entrance
Drivers may assist riders up or down one 6 inch step but may not push wheelchairs through deep snow or very icy conditions (make sure your path is clear)
Passengers refusing to allow the driver to secure their wheelchair may be refused service
When using the lift (including standees), please follow all safety instructions provided by the driver
Oxygen tanks must be secured to a wheelchair, an oxygen tank cart, or oxygen tank shoulder bag
Please request to use the lap-belt and shoulder harness on the bus and engage your wheelchair’s brakes
Ensure your mobility aid is properly maintained and safe to travel
A-Ride shared-ride trips are provided in sedans and accessible lift-equipped buses. Riders using Wheelchairs may travel in a sedan if they can transfer without driver assistance, their wheelchair weighs less than 50 pounds, and it can be stowed in the trunk.
Riders may not choose the type of vehicle they prefer to travel in.
