ANN ARBOR, MI -- The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) recently received the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting by being presented with the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. This award was received for TheRide’s Fiscal Year 2020 Operating and Capital Budget. This is the third year in a row that the organization has received this prestigious award.

TheRide received a medallion to commemorate the achievement and TheRide’s board of directors acknowledged the prestigious achievement at its recent virtual board meeting.

“On behalf of TheRide’s Board of Directors, we would like to congratulate the Finance team and everyone at TheRide for their dedication and hard work. Receiving this award for three consecutive years is a tremendous honor. We appreciate everyone at TheRide’s dedication to our community,” said Eric Mahler, Chair of TheRide’s Board of Directors.

To receive the budget award, the budget had to satisfy a number of nationally recognized guidelines and receive a rating of “proficient” in all four categories to receive the award. The categories are:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operations guide
  • A communications device

“I’m very proud of our team at TheRide and happy to be recognized for their continued dedication and efforts,” Matt Carpenter, CEO of TheRide said. “Over the last few years, we’ve made it a priority to modernize our budgeting procedures and ensure the information we present is clear and transparent.”

TheRide Board of Directors adopted their Fiscal Year 2021 Operating and Capital Budget at the September 2020 meeting. TheRide’s Fiscal Year operates from October 1, 2020 – September 30, 2021.
