How to Ride

  • Make a Reservation

Reserve a time to be picked up. We accept trip reservations 1-3 days in advance.

  • Get Ready to Leave

When you make a reservation, we will give you a pickup time and a On-Time window. Your On-Time window is the time frame when your ride should arrive. The On-Time window is 30 minutes.

Please be ready to leave when your ride arrives. The driver can only wait up to 5 minutes before moving onto the next stop.

  • Board & Pay

Have your fare and A-Ride I.D. ready before boarding. You can pay for your fare using the EZFare app, exact cash or a scrip coupon. Keep in mind that drivers do not carry change and they can't help you retrieve change from your pocket, purse, or wallet. You can purchase a scrip coupon book through our online store or by calling 734-973-6500.

  • Enjoy Your Ride

Take a seat and enjoy your ride. The travel time of an A-Ride trip is similar to the same trip if taken on our regular fixed-route buses. Travel times vary based on trip distance, traffic, time of day and weather conditions.

Driver Responsibilities

  • Drivers are not required to load or unload shopping bags and other personal items
  • Drivers are not permitted to enter private residences
  • Vehicles must remain within the driver’s view
  • Drivers do no carry or give change, for safety reasons
  • Drivers are not permitted to retrieve fare from a customer’s pocket, purse or wallet.

Personal Care Attendants & Guests

One Personal Care Attendant (PCA) can accompany A-Ride I.D. holders for free. You must indicate your need for a PCA when you complete the A-Ride I.D. application.

A-Ride passengers can travel with no more than 2 additional guests (including 1 PCA), if capacity permits. Additional fares do apply for non-PCA guests. Companions ages five and younger travel free. Small children must travel with their car seats. PCAs and guests must board and exit the vehicle with you.

Bringing Personal Belongings

Service Animals & Pets

Service animals and properly caged comfort and emotional support animals can ride with you for free. Service animals must be on a leash or harness. You are responsible for properly controlling your animal.

Packages

Riders can travel with items that they can safely carry on their laps, at their feet, or under their seat. Please limit the number and size of your items. If you require more space for items, you will need to arrange an alternate form of transportation.

Bus drivers can help you carry up to two items per trip. Items must weigh 20 pounds or less. Items likely to cause harm may not be transported.

Mobility Devices

A-Ride buses can accommodate wheelchairs, scooters, and other mobility devices. Riders are expected to follow these guidelines:

  • Occupied wheelchairs must weigh less than 600 pounds and can't be more than 30 inches wide by 48 inches long.
  • Allow the bus driver to secure your wheelchair.
  • Follow the driver's safety instructions when using the lift.
  • Secure oxygen tanks to a wheelchair, an oxygen tank cart, or shoulder bag.
  • Use the lap-belt and shoulder harness during transport.
  • Wheelchair brakes must be functioning and engaged during transport.

Riders can't choose the type of vehicle they prefer to travel in.
