ANN ARBOR, MI – The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide) is pleased to announce that its Fleet Services team recently was awarded national recognition as the number one public transportation fleet in the nation and made the top 40 overall public fleet in 2026 by NAFA Fleet Management Association.
NAFA Fleet and Management Association is the vehicle fleet industry’s largest membership association with over 3,500 member organizations in North, Central and South America. NAFA recognizes excellence and achievement in operational efficiency, safety, sustainability and innovation in both public and commercial fleet operations each year. TheRide placed 36th amongst 100 of the best fleets in the Americas based on twelve areas of criteria that must be reviewed and analyzed against. Previously, TheRide was given an honorable mention in this competition.

Criteria that TheRide was reviewed against included financial management, use of technology, energy management, staff development and resource stewardship, among other categories. Being in the top 40 public fleets demonstrates measurable progress and drives accountability and surfaces improvement opportunities. The placement, determined by a panel of fleet industry experts, recognized the TheRide’s dedication to efficient fleet operations, and honors recent initiatives including Tire Program Studies, Maintenance Process Improvements, and Maintenance Policy Implementation.
